One

This volume was written in 1990 so as to construct a universal theory with entire consistency on overall political phenomena.

The title of this volume is 「A Sketch of Existence」. Alike what this title implies I want to suggest the contents of this volume as a picture. It describes various figures of human behavior that I saw, thus, although it cannot clear my subjective opinion-this content is a construction in this meaning- its another genuine figure cannot be dettached from the fact itself.

It would be honest to say that the direct reason I wrote this volume comes from my own strong complaint of the given political theories overall.

A theory should be able to explain concrete facts based on a logically consistent system that suggests universal standard for understanding. Of this condition, its completeness will imply that we can predict facts with it. The most part of political theories that I could read or hear were ideological things or mere descriptions on actuality, i.e. facts, or some logically systemized theory that can produce restricted explanations only about contemporary political phenomena, and that was all. Moreover, I'd like to point out that there was no theory that gives us consistent explanation on all facts that can belong to a category of political phenomenon.

뿐만 아니라 더 중요한 것은 정치현상이라는 하나의 범주로 구분되는 사실들에 대해서 일관된 설 명을 하는 이론이 없다는 것이었다. 즉 나의 요구는 현상에 대한 이론에서의 보편성, 필연성, 상호관련성의 3가지로 요약될 수 있으리라 본다.

일부의 사람들이 나에게 동감할지도 모르지만 그보다 더 많은 사람들이 아마도 나의 요구와 불만의 원인을 여러 가지로 분석하고 반론을 제기할 수 있으리라. 여기서 나는 이 문제, 즉 나의 불만의 원인과 그 정당성의 문제에 대해서는 논의하고자 하지 않는다. 그 까닭은… 간단하다.

지향성의 자기지향성은 곧 자발성과지향성의 자기인과의 바탕이다. 자기인과에 의하여 지향 성은 과거의 경험을 축적하여 진화한다. 지향성에 의해 성립하는 진화는 지향적이다. 진화의 방향은 생존의 가능성의 확대이다.

자기인과란 스스로가 현상으로서의 자기자신에 대한 직접적인 원인이 되는 것이다. 자기인과에 의해 원인과 결과는 하나가 된다.

(1-1/1) 지향성을 구성하는 일련의 작용들이 진화에 의해 복잡화되고 확대되면 지향성 바 깥의 작용들과 지향성을 구성하는 작용들이 간접적으로 작용하게 된다. 그 결과로 지향성을 구성하는 작용들이 지향성의 바깥의 작용들과 현상적으로 분리된 상호작용들로 간주될 수 있으며 그리하여 내부적 상호작용들의 자기인과성이 매우 뚜렷해질 때 그 지향성의 총체를 「의지」라 한다.
